Boring BIRTH STORY-
I was 9 days past due so we scheduled an induction. Baby was getting a little too big.
I went in to the hospital on Saturday at 5pm, March 6th to get the Cervidil started with the plan to start Pitocin on Sunday morning. I was zero dilated but slightly effaced. The Cervidil was placed around 6:30-7:00pm and within a couple of hours I was having regular contractions. They checked me shortly after and I was 2-3cm. I DIDN'T EVEN NEED THE PITOCON! By 4 cm, my contractions began to get too painful and too close together so I requested the epidural NOW. The epi was placed and I felt immediate relief, however, shortly after the relief came the scare.
All of a sudden the room filled with what seemed like 15 nurses and the anesthesiologist, the pagers went off and I started to see black. The next thing I knew they put oxygen on me and I was getting flip flopped from side to side. No one would tell me anything. I looked over and noticed the nurse was preparing to give me something. I asked her what it was and she said it was Epinephrine to bring my blood pressure up because it went too low and the baby's heart rate was too low. I was panicked.
They placed an internal monitor on the baby's scalp, broke my water since my earlier breakage was too high up and wasn't doing anything. I had to continue to flip sides to keep the baby's heart rate up.
Since I had such a reaction to the epidural, I wasn't able to get full relief from it. So from 4 to 10cm, I was still in pain and having to breathe through the contractions.
Finally, my bp stabilized and the baby's heart rate did too, so the anesthesiologist gave me another good dose of the epi. I was told when I started to feel rectal pressure, to let them know. About 15 minutes after the good dose (and feeling nothing at this point) I was 10cm and ready to push.
I pushed for about 30 minutes but the baby's heart rate kept dropping so they told me that I needed to get her out ASAP or I would have to have a C-section. After pushing and not being able to feel anything, they told me they needed to use the vacuum and I had 2 contractions to get her out. On my very last contraction she was born.
Lorelei Elaine was born on March 7th at 7:16AM. She weighed 8lb5oz and was 20in long.
